Why You Lose You Data
User Error Related Data Loss.
More often then not, the reason for data loss is deceptively simple. Sometimes we just forget where we save our files, or we delete files which we think we have saved.
Accidental And Intentional Deletion And Format
Sometimes we don't realise that we need a file until we delete it. Or that and important document is inside a folder we deleted until it is too late. This is carelessness on our part, and can prove costly and potentially embarrassing.
Once you format or delete a file, you need to stop using the hard disk that this file is stored on. If you continue using the drive, chances are you might not get back your data even if you send in your drive to a professional data recovery company.
But isn't the file deleted/formatted anyway?
Well, when you first delete a file, it is not really deleted. Rather it is marked, or flagged, so that it can be overwritten by new data. So it in your best interest that you stop using you storage media before your file is overwritten.
Misplaced Data Drives, Discs And Renamed Files.
It may seem amusing, but it happens. Misplacing a removable drive, be it a 2.5” external hard disk or a thumb drive is still data loss especially if you need it for an upcoming me
eting.
The best option here is, if you have a copy of you files on a computer, to copy or burn the data on another disc. If the data is on an external drive, refer to another copy of the data. This course of action can only be done if you back up your data.
If you renamed your files and can’t remember it, look for the file in the usual places you save. My Document folders, external drives and a cluttered desktop are places you should look.
